Why I Invented WRINX™: My Personal Story

WRINX™ didn't start as a business idea.

It started as a healthy habit.

And a problem I didn't see coming.

It Started During One of the Hardest Seasons of My Life

Several years ago, I was going through a divorce.

At the time, I was trying to save my marriage, save myself, and become the best version of myself that I could be.

Like many people facing a difficult season in life, I started focusing on things I could control.

I began building healthy habits.

I started working out consistently.

I focused on my nutrition.

And I committed to drinking more water.

The funny thing is, I never really liked plain water.

To make it easier, I started adding lemon. Later, I switched to clean electrolytes to make it more enjoyable and to support my workouts.

Over time, carrying a tumbler became second nature.

It went everywhere with me.

To work.

To the gym.

In the car.

Running errands.

Even next to my bed at night.

What started as a habit became part of my lifestyle.

Then I Noticed the Lip Lines

Years later, I started noticing something I wasn't expecting.

Tiny vertical lines around my lips.

At first, they were subtle.

Then they became harder to ignore.

As a dentist, I spend my days looking at faces, smiles, lips, and the muscles around the mouth.

Once I noticed the lines on myself, I started noticing something else.

Many of my patients—women around my age—would walk into their dental appointments carrying large tumblers just like mine.

And many of them had the same vertical lip lines.

Of course, aging, genetics, sun exposure, and collagen loss all play a role. But I couldn't help wondering whether years of repeatedly pursing our lips around straws throughout the day might also be contributing.

I wasn't trying to stop aging.

I simply wanted to be proactive.

Looking for a Solution

Once I became aware of the issue, I started looking for products that might help.

I did find a few options online.

But they weren't designed the way I needed them to be.

The opening was still too narrow.

Because I already had some lip lines, I noticed my skin would still fold when using them.

I also found something else frustrating.

Water would often sputter out of my mouth when I drank. And I would pucker to prevent a wet mess.

It wasn't a smooth drinking experience.

And if something is annoying to use, most people won't use it consistently.

I wanted something better.

Something that felt natural.

Something comfortable.

Something I could actually use every day.

Creating WRINX™

So I decided to create it myself.

I went through multiple designs, prototypes, and revisions.

One of the biggest changes I made was creating a sloped interior design to help water flow back in.

I also wanted a wider opening than the alternatives I had tried because I wanted to minimize the lip folding I was experiencing.

Every detail was intentional.

The shape.

The size.

The comfort.

The portability.

The goal wasn't to create another straw accessory.

The goal was to create a solution I personally wanted to use.

Eventually, that idea became WRINX™ Pout Protector.

A removable silicone straw attachment designed for people who want to continue enjoying their favorite drinks while reducing the pursing motion associated with traditional straw use.

Why Prevention Matters to Me

As a dentist, prevention has always been part of my philosophy.

We brush our teeth before cavities develop.

We floss before gum disease starts.

We wear sunscreen before sun damage appears.

To me, lip care isn't much different.

While no product can stop aging, I believe many people appreciate simple ways to support healthy habits while taking a prevention-focused approach.

That's what WRINX™ represents to me.

Not fear.

Not perfection.

Not unrealistic promises.

Just a thoughtful solution to a problem I personally experienced.

The Real Reason I Created WRINX™

At the end of the day, I didn't want to choose between staying healthy and protecting my appearance.

I had worked hard to build the habit of drinking water.

That habit improved my health, my fitness, and my overall well-being.

I wasn't willing to give it up.

I simply wanted to figure out a way to keep my healthy habit without aging my face.

That's why WRINX™ exists.

Dr. Krystal Benyamein is a dentist, entrepreneur, and creator of WRINX™ Pout Protector. After years of carrying a tumbler everywhere and noticing lip lines developing from daily straw use, she set out to design a simple, travel-friendly solution for people who want to maintain healthy hydration habits while taking a prevention-focused approach to lip care.
